Boston resident Simon Huang, 22, was driving a Lexus northbound on the parkway in New Rochelle when he was stopped for a traffic violation at approximately 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, near Weaver Street, police said. While speaking with Huang, officers detected the odor of marijuana coming from the back of the sedan.
According to police, further investigation found two laundry bags in the trunk that had “a large quantity of marijuana.” In total, there were 54 pounds of pot in 46 heat-sealed packages, police said.
Huang was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a felony. He was booked at Westchester County Police headquarters in Hawthorne and held overnight pending his arraignment on Wednesday afternoon in New Rochelle City Hall.
